Hello my loves! I am so sorry for being MIA for the past couple of weeks…I have been really busy with studying and other exciting things but I will tell you more about that some other time ::wink::
Do you ever crave something all the time…you can’t stop thinking about..yearn for it at all hours of the day and bug everyone around you until they finally cave in and give it to you? Well for me it is FALAFEL! I seriously have been craving this like crazy…
Today I was with my family in Astoria Queens which is known for its Mediterranean Restaurants and I swore that I would not leave without a falafel sammie in my hand but odds were against me. We called three different restaurants in the neighborhood and none of them had falafel!!! D’oh! And just when I was giving up hope, my sister pointed to a food vendor truck “Look they sell Falafels” but wait it gets better…not only do they sell it but they are the KING of it!
We were lucky enough to stumble across the King of Falafel! AND judging by the long line of people, I had a feeling that the food would be good!
We waited patiently while the aroma of Falafel filled the streets…
While I waited for our food, I spoke with one of the chefs and it turns out that they won the Vendy Award which is Called “the Oscars of food for the real New York” by Chef Mario Batal and they were also featured on ABC news!!!!! I hit the Jackpot!!!!!
Here he is posing with their award
Not only do they have amazing food but they also have great customer service…when they heard that my dad never tried falafel, they gave him some samples to try and he loved it!
I waited patiently to get home to fully enjoy my sammie and OMG it was worth the wait!!!! This was absolutely the best falafel that I ever had…I especially liked that it was a bit spicy.
I enjoyed it in a pita with Lettuce, Tomatoes, Onions, and some Tahini sauce yuuuuuuuuuuuuuums!
Thankfully my dad frequents this neighborhood a lot for business so I will be calling “shot gun” when he goes!
If you are in Astoria, do your taste buds a favor and check out The King Of Falafel, you can find them on 30th Street and Broadway…
And like they always say “Good things come to those who wait” Nom Nom
Namaste…
